EUCAPIA Leafy Vegetables 2019

In June 2019, I was able to attend the 9th International Conference on Leafy Vegetable Genetics and Breeding, organized by Eucarpia (European Association for Plant Improvement) in Olomouc, Czech Republic.

Although advertised on leafy vegetables, the presentations focused mainly on lettuce and resistance to Bremia (problematic disease in Europe and USA) and spinach. However, I was able to attend some presentations on:

African leafy vegetables (University of Poland),
Resistance to lettuce nematodes (INRA Avignon),
Emergence of new diseases in lettuce in Europe (University of Italy) but not the diseases of interest to us,
Marker-assisted selection on lettuce (University of California),

In addition, I got a contact to order cabbages resistant to different stresses (flood, drought) and to review a professor working on the S locus of chicory, but this knowledge will most be useful to us.

The next congress will be held in the Netherlands.
