17th EUCARPIA – Capsicum and Eggplant

Innovations in Genetics and Breeding of Capsicum and Eggplant

From 11 to 13 September 2019, the 17th International Congress on Innovations in Genetics and Selection of Peppers and Eggplants, organised by EUCARPIA and INRA this year, was held in Avignon, France. A strong participation of experts from the academic and private sectors was noted.

Different themes were addressed in oral and poster presentations, summarized in five sessions:

Genetic resources and domestication
Resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses
Nutritional value and quality of fruit
Biotechnology and genomics
Pre-breeding and breeding

This Eucarpia has also been promoted student participation in order to rejuvenate the university faculty. Prizes were awarded for the three best oral and poster presentations by doctoral candidates.

The conference was an opportunity for meetings, exchanges with the international scientific community, to see the progress, especially in Biotechnology and Genomics, to visit the GEVES site and to learn about their activities.

As sponsors of the congress, we produced a poster presenting NOVA GENETIC’s activities. Pens were also distributed. We hope that this communication will give us more visibility and lead to new collaborations.

The scientific committee invited us to meet in 2022, in Bulgaria in Plovdiv for even richer and more fruitful exchanges.
